6th MAY 2022 UPDATE: Labour won the local elections in St Helens Borough with 52.5% of the vote, holding 29 out of 48 seats on the council. We thank everyone for their support, and we’re getting straight back to work for you!

Our manifesto will stay online here so you can hold us to it, and the commitments we made will be integrated into the council’s programme and reported on regularly throughout the year.

St Helens is a great place – the community spirit, kindness and strength we saw through the pandemic was amazing; we’ve got thousands of great businesses; outstanding parks, sports clubs and schools; a proud heritage, and huge potential.

In the last two years as a Labour council we’ve helped to set up #StHelensTogether to coordinate volunteers and support, backed local workers and businesses, and kept more than 700 essential services running. At the same time, we’ve made huge progress on delivering our priorities, not least with our town centre regeneration plans with our partner English Cities Fund, helped by our successful bid for £25m Town Deal funding.

We are proud to publish our manifesto setting out our record and our plans for the council and our borough in the next four years.

Labour’s David Baines, Leader of St Helens Borough Council, says: “The local elections on 5th May are vital for the future of the borough. In an all-out election with all 48 seats up for grabs and control of the council and more than 700 essential services at stake, the very least every candidate and Party should do is tell people their record, their values, and their plans.

That’s exactly what Labour are doing. Our manifesto is detailed, it’s ambitious, and it’s deliverable.

Regenerating our town centres and creating local jobs; caring for children and older people; supporting families and keyworkers; backing the police in the fight against antisocial behaviour; tackling climate change – on all this and more, Labour is on your side.”
