St Helens Labour condemns the Reform-led council administration’s decision to withdraw books from library displays.

Libraries should be places of learning, inclusion and understanding — not political battlegrounds where diversity and representation are erased to suit an ideological agenda. Attempts to remove or marginalise books relating to LGBTQ+ lives and experiences send a deeply damaging message to residents across our borough, particularly young people who rely on public services to feel seen, supported and safe.

St Helens has a proud history of standing together and looking after one another. Diversity is not something to be hidden away from public view. Representation matters, inclusion matters, and respect matters.

St Helens deserves leadership focused on protecting essential services and bringing communities together — not headline-chasing political stunts designed to divide them.
