St Helens Borough Labour Leader Anthony Burns said: “Cllr Linda Maloney MBE was such an important part of our team and a fantastic hard-working councillor for the residents of Blackbrook and Haydock and her death has shocked us all. In selecting a candidate to succeed Linda it was important that we selected a strong candidate with a proven track record and links to the ward, so we are delighted to have Sally on board.

Sally has been a big part of delivering for St Helens residents over the last 18 years. She was a key figure in the response to the COVID pandemic helping to create the St Helens Together movement which helped residents and saved lives. Such was the effect of her work she was recognised at the highest level with the award of an MBE. She is perfect for the ward of Blackbrook too, with her family members actively involved in the running of Blackbrook ARLFC. She will be a fantastic ward councillor and will continue in Linda’s footsteps on the side of residents and being a strong voice for all of Blackbrook.”
