A new Night Time Economy Forum is putting a new focus on providing a vibrant and varied evening entertainment and hospitality offer in St Helens town centre.
Partners from across St Helens town centre, including St Helens Borough Council, Merseyside Police, community partners and business representatives came together for the first meeting of the forum.
The forum’s creation follows the successful accreditation last year of Purple Flag status from the Association of Town and City Management. This recognition demonstrates partners commitment to providing a safe and inclusive night life environment for its visitors.
The forum brings together representatives from a range of night time economy businesses, from pubs and clubs to restaurants, theatre and other entertainment venues like bingo halls, as well as licensed taxi companies.
The initial meeting focused on what the forum can deliver and discussed key areas including forthcoming events in the town centre, opportunities for learning and development as well as important issues like safety and will continue to meet to discuss the development of the night time economy.
Councillor Kate Groucutt, Cabinet Member for Economy, Business and Skills, said: “I’d like to thank those who took the time to come along to our first meeting and their continued support, helping to create the conditions for a thriving evening offer as part of our wider town centre regeneration.
“We’re committed to making sure that everyone has access to an exciting and inclusive hospitality and entertainment experience, no matter their age. The Night Time Economy Forum is a crucial step in achieving this.
“Through building relationships between local residents, businesses, ourselves, the third sector and police we want to build on the success of the Purple Flag status and the opportunities that our exciting regeneration plans will bring for existing businesses and new ones alike.”
