Labour want to reform the way local buses operate

Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and City Region leaders have announced plans to look at the future of bus services in Merseyside and Halton – see https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-city-region-set-biggest-17778643

Steve says: “Over the past 30 years, London has enjoyed record levels of funding in its transport network – and it shows!

I want to build a London-style transport system for our area.

Well-run buses – alongside our brand-new publicly owned trains – will be the cornerstone of that.

That’s why I’m announcing that a franchising model is the leading option for improving our region’s bus network.”

St Helens Council Leader David Baines says:Working with Steve and other City Region leaders, my St Helens Labour colleagues and I are determined to do all we can to make sure our bus network is affordable, reliable, and connects our communities as well as it possibly can.

If it’s good enough for London, it’s good enough for us.”
