Play equipment for wheelchair users is going to be installed in a St Helens park

St Helens Council Leader David Baines has pledged Labour’s full support to get disabled-access play equipment installed in a St Helens park, ensuring that no child is excluded from play.

Paul and Jackie Swailes has been fighting to get a swing installed in the borough, and have launched a petition to gather public support. Today, they met with David and Council officers to discuss what can be done.

Council Leader David Baines says: “It was a pleasure to meet Paul and Jackie. They are so passionate about this, not just for their own son but for every child and young person who at the moment can’t access play equipment in local parks. This has to change.

I’m happy to say that I fully support the family in their campaign.

Council officers are now working to get the swing installed, and we’re also looking at installing a specially adapted roundabout too.

I want to thank Mr Smailes for the positive feedback he’s posted online (pictured below).

No child should be excluded from play!
