St Helens today celebrated Armed Forces Day and the Great Get Together with a terrific day of entertainment and events at Victoria Park in Windle.

Labour councillors including Mayor Janet Johnson, Leader David Baines, Deputy Leader Sue Murphy, and Armed Forces Champion Lynn Clarke joined hundreds of local residents in paying tribute to those who have served and who continue to serve our country. The Great Get Together was also held and helped to attract hundreds of residents to the park in glorious sunshine.

Councillor Lynn Clarke says: “It’s been a great day and it’s been good to see so many people here in Victoria Park enjoying the event. St Helens is proud of our Armed Forces and it’s good to be able to pay tribute to them in such a positive way.

We also celebrated the Great Get Together in memory of Jo Cox and her message that we have more in common than that which divides us. Thank you to the Friends of Victoria Park, St Helens Rotary and others who made it such a success.”
