St Helens Labour has announced its candidates for Sutton South East Ward in the upcoming all-out local elections this May, introducing John Riley and Charlie Preston as the party’s candidates.

We have two new candidates stepping forward to represent residents and champion the issues that matter most to the community. Both John and Charlie bring energy, commitment and a strong desire to serve, as Labour continues its campaign to stand candidates in every ward across the borough.

Their announcement follows St Helens Labour’s major campaign launch event, which brought together members, councillors, MPs and regional leaders to kickstart the election campaign. With every seat on the council up for election, the party says it is focused on offering a positive, ambitious vision for the future of local communities.

Council Leader Anthony Burns welcomed the new Sutton South East team and highlighted the importance of the upcoming election.

Anthony Burns said:
“John and Charlie are passionate about the community, committed to public service and ready to work hard for residents.

“Sutton is a proud community, and I’m confident that John and Charlie will be strong voices for local people, listening to concerns and delivering real results.”

He added:
“This election is about the future of our borough — protecting vital services, continuing to invest in our communities and making sure every neighbourhood benefits from the progress we are delivering.”

Both candidates say they are enjoying meeting residents across the ward and will continue to be visible in the coming weeks as the campaign gathers pace.

John Riley said:
“I’m proud to be standing in Sutton South East. This is a community with a strong identity and great people, and I want to play my part in helping it thrive. I’m looking forward to speaking with residents, understanding their priorities and working hard to represent them.”

Charlie Preston said:
“I care deeply about our local area and the people who live here. I’m excited to be standing as a candidate and to have the opportunity to make a real difference. I’ll be focused on listening, supporting residents and helping to build a stronger future for Sutton South East.”

Labour says the Sutton South East team are focused on delivering key local priorities including protecting frontline services, supporting families, improving neighbourhoods and ensuring the area benefits from ongoing investment across the borough.

The party will continue announcing candidates for remaining wards as the campaign builds momentum ahead of May’s elections, with teams out across St Helens speaking to residents and setting out Labour’s vision for the future.
