St Helens Labour – A Clear Choice for the Borough’s Future

St Helens Labour officially launched its short campaign on Saturday 28th March, setting out a clear message to residents: this election is a two-horse race, and only Labour can stop Reform and protect the borough’s future.

Campaigners, councillors, and volunteers joined forces across St Helens over the weekend, taking Labour’s message directly to residents — a message rooted in delivery, fairness, and a proven plan for the future.

The launch comes just weeks after Labour delivered a fair and responsible budget for 2026/27 — one that protects vital services while investing millions into the borough.

The Labour-led budget includes:

  • More than £150 million investment in regeneration and growth across St Helens
  • Free school uniforms for every pupil, supporting working families with the cost of living
  • Free town centre parking to support local businesses and boost high streets
  • Investment in roads, transport, and infrastructure, including major improvements for residents and commuters
  • Funding for schools, including additional SEND provision
  • More investment in our parks and green spaces
  • Protection of essential frontline services, including adult and children’s social care.

This balanced approach ensures that while councils across the country are cutting services, Labour in St Helens is choosing to invest in communities and protect what matters most.

Leader of St Helens Labour Council Anthony Burns said:
“This election comes down to a simple choice. A Labour council that is delivering regeneration of our town centres, has delivered a fair budget, protected services, and invested in our borough — or Reform, who offer no credible plan and would put that progress at risk. Only Labour can beat Reform here in St Helens.”

Throughout the campaign, Labour teams will continue speaking with residents across every community, highlighting their record of delivery and their plan to build a stronger, fairer borough.

Saturday’s launch saw activists out in force on doorsteps, with a strong and positive response from residents who recognise Labour’s commitment to standing up for St Helens.

The new budget announcements have gone down really well on the doorstep, especially the Free School Uniforms which will make a huge difference to families. Cllr Burns added:
“We’re proud of what we’ve delivered — from free school uniforms to major investment in our towns — but we know there’s more to do. This campaign is about protecting that progress and making sure St Helens continues to move forward. The new budget announcements have gone down really well on the doorstep, especially the Free School Uniforms which will make a huge difference to families. That is the difference a Labour Government working with a Labour City Region and a Labour Council makes.”

Residents are encouraged to get involved, speak to local campaigners, and make their voice heard in what Labour describes as a “critical moment” for the borough.
