Huge congratulations to our friend and colleague, the Mayor of St Helens Borough, Cllr Sue Murphy, who has received an MBE in the New Year Honours list for Public and Political Service
A councillor for Billinge and Seneley Green, Cllr Murphy has been involved in local politics for the past 28 years, having held a number of high-profile roles on the council, including deputy leader and a number of cabinet positions.
During her time as mayor, Cllr Murphy has also raised a substantial amount for local causes, including Alder Hey and Willowbrook Hospice .
Cllr Murphy said: “I am honoured and humbled to receive this award and I want to thank the residents of Billinge and Seneley Green for placing their trust in me and allowing me to serve them for over the past 28 years as their representative on both parish and borough councils.
“The position has also allowed me the opportunity of working with many organisations and community groups throughout the borough – and more recently has allowed me to represent the people of St Helens as their mayor which is a great honour in itself.
“My thanks go to my colleagues, our MPs, St Helens Council and the workforce who are all simply amazing – but special thanks go to my husband Mike and family; without their love and support, I would never have achieved this.”
