It’s #ArmedForcesDay and to honour it our special flag will be flying above #StHelens and Earlestown Town Halls, while the Steve Prescott Bridge will be illuminated red, white and blue. Show your support from home by joining the #SaluteOurForces trend on social media.

Council Leader David Baines says:Sadly today we won’t be able to celebrate #ArmedForcesDay as we would have liked. It’s become a fantastic celebration across the borough in recent years and I’m looking forward to next year when we can all come together again and mark the occasion properly.”

Labour Leader Keir Starmer has issued the following message:

I’m proud of my country and proud of those who serve it. #ArmedForcesDay2020

Today is #ArmedForcesDay2020 and I want to say thank you to our serving personnel, their families and our veterans. I’m proud of my country and proud of those who serve it.
