I am sorry that tonight’s result didn’t go the way we wanted. Although the Lib Dem vote did collapse, we didn’t have enough votes to take the seat. That’s the way it goes sometimes.
It has been an incredible journey, it has been a pleasure meeting so many nice people and campaigning with a great group of volunteers. Thanks to everyone who supported me and to all the residents who put their trust in me. It is very much appreciated.
Over the last few weeks I have had the real pleasure of talking with so many residents and businesses in Sutton and have been truly humbled by the support and encouragement from so many people.
I was determined to run a positive campaign – I simply wanted to do what I could to Improve our community.
Whilst I didn’t win the election, I am really proud of the work I did during the campaign to improve our area and respond to those issues that were most important to you.
These included:
- Carrying out an extensive community survey to understand what issues are currently causing you the most concern.
- Developing a plan to tackle your priorities for Sutton if I were elected. I didn’t wait to start to address some issues and am proud that I was able to:
- Successfully lobby to get the wall at St Helens Junction repaired.
- Reporting and arranging the clearance of tons of waste that was dumped in alleyways to be cleared.
- Lobbying for extra funding to be made available for pothole repairs on Mill Lane and Brindley Road with works due to start this Spring/Summer.
- Escalating residents concerns about Anti Social Behaviour.
- Reported issues with long standing derelict buildings and land and got the ball rolling to put multi agency plans in place to try of resolve these areas.
- Worked with Labour Party colleagues to campaign to get new bus routes to get Sutton workers to jobs at Omega.
- Pushed for the full opening of facilities at Lea Green Station.
I wanted to thank everyone who supported me to make a positive difference
