Former Tory Education Secretary Gavin Williamson and staff at the Department for Education held a Christmas party last year at the same time that pupils and their families, nurseries, schools and colleges were following the rules, facing severe restrictions and huge uncertainty day-to-day: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/tory-gavin-williamson-hosted-party-25641812
The revelation came on the same night that a leaked video showed Downing Street staff laughing about the Christmas party the Prime Minister has so far denied took place: https://www.sthelenslabour.org/latest-news/2021/12/07/oneruleforthem/.
Reacting to the reports, Cllr Kate Groucutt, Cabinet member for Education, Skills and Business, says: “Schools have been on the front line throughout the pandemic with teachers and school staff risking their own safety to keep children in class and avoid them missing out on any more education.
They, along with children, parents and carers, have complied with the rules and done everything asked of them by the government. Yet now it emerges that the Secretary of State for Education was holding a party while socialising was banned and Christmas was about to be cancelled.
Gavin Williamson has already been sacked over his incompetence and failures such as the exam fiasco. This shows he was never fit to hold this vital job in the first place.”
